Processing techniques of ceramics used by the Etruscans underwent a long evolution: the first vases were made in clay of alluvial origin - torrent or river. From the seventh century on, the clay was refined. The finer material was fired at about 900 B.C., and allowed to produce significantly more valuable items, worked with a wheel. Vases in bucchero nero are characterized by a black or gray clay. The thickness of the clay vessels was more or less thin, reproducing various forms - oenochoes, Olpe, Cantharis - , the decorations were engraved or embossed.
