Du
nom antique de la ville d'Egnazia, sur la côte Adriatique de
l'Apulie, le style dit de Gnathia se distingue des autres productions
par sa technique de décoration qui consiste à
couvrir
sur une surface vernie noire, un décor surpeint -
généralement
du blanc et du rouge, et plus rarement du jaune. Cette production
débuta autour de 360 av. J.-C. juqu'à au 270 av.
J.-C.
Gnathian ware is named for the city of Egnazia, on the Adriatic coast of Apulia. The Gnathian ware is distinguished from most other wares by the tecnhique of decoration which consisted of covering the suface with black slip and then applying the decoration in added colour. - mostly red or white but also yellow. This production begun around 360 B.C. and continued at least until 270 B.C.
