Urne cinéraire
biconique
villanovienne, Etrurie, IXème siècle av. J.-C.
, à une anse, orné de
motifs géométriques - méandres,
métope et svastika - réalisés au
peigne
et imitant une cordelette, avec son écuelle à
lèvre rentrante, à une
seule anse - retournée vers le bas dans les tombes d'adultes
et vers le
haut dans les tombes d'enfants. Dans certaines sépultures
masculines,
l'écuelle est remplacée par un casque en
céramique. Réalisé en impasto, ces urne servaient d'urnes cinéraires entre le IXème et le VIIème siècle av. J.-C. La "culture de Villanova" - du nom d'un site archéologique Villanova di Castenaso, dans la région de Bologne - dont les traces sont attestés dès le Ier millénaire av. J.-C., correspond au territoire de la future Etrurie et se rapporte à une entité ethnique unique qui introduisit le travail du fer dans la péninsule Italique. La caractéristique majeure de cette culture est le recours à l'incinération des défunts. La tombe à incinération se présente comme un puits à ressaut, constitué d'un puit supérieur au fond duquel est creusé une seconde cavité - l'ossuaire -, destiné à accueillir l'urne, et clos par une dalle de pierre. Cette urne provient d'une ancienne collection hollandaise de 1965 et fut trouvée à Vulci, d'ou le numéro d'inventaire "Vu XIII A". Vendue avec test de thermoluminescence et certificat d'exportation. In some masculine sepulchres the bowl in replaced by a ceramic reproduction of a helmet. Such urns were hand-modeled in impasto and incised with geometrical motifs. The "culture of Villanova" - named after the site of Villanova di Castenaso, near Bologna - is attested since the 1st millennium B.C. in the area of the futur Eturia, corresponds to an ethnical entity who introduced iron-working in the Italic peninsula. The biconical ossuary is one of the most characteristic elements of this culture and was used to hold ashes and burned bones after the cremation. The urns were placed in tombs in the form of shallow wells dug into the earth and covered by a pile of stone. This urns comes from an old 1965 Dutch collection and was found in Vulci, hence the inventory n° "Vu XIII A". Sold with a TL test and a passeport. Hauteur : 37 cm Height : 14.56' in.
